So You’re Looking to Wear a Scottish Kilt? Here’s What You Should Know.

The Scottish kilt is unique garment for men with a lot of history and tradition behind it. First worn by Gaelic-speaking male Highlanders from Northern Scotland in the 16th Century, the kilt is considered a sacred symbol of patriotism and honor for a true-blue Scotsman. The kilt is primarily considered a piece of formal wear that has transcended time and fashion to modern day. While wearing a kilt is pretty common for the residents of the Scottish Highlands, occasionally it still receives mixed reactions around the world. For example: There was a case with an American teenager, William Carruba, who was denied entry to his high school prom for wearing a kilt as a means of honoring his Scottish heritage.
